As discussed in the Welcome thread, the goal of the WWC is to organize a group of members that reach out to new and struggling managers on the main site and introduce them to the game - and hopefully lead them to this Help Forum. If you're not comfortable in introducing yourself or reaching out to them privately, that's fine, you can still be a big help just by passing their information along to someone who will.
Where to look -
There's lots of place to look for new players. From the main site, you can see members who have recently been online when accessing the "webl forums." Down below the sections there's a list of link's w/ gymnames of guys who've been online in the past 15 minutes. You can also run across them in the fighter rankings, forums, press releases, or in your fighter's upcoming scheduled fights. In the future I'm hoping Bruce will give us updated lists of new managers who've recently registered. I'll post more on that if/when I receive it.
What to look for -
If you see someone who you think might be new - click on their gymname. Do they have many fights? What's their record? Have all their fight's been recent or do they just seem to be struggling with the game? If so, that's someone we probably need to reach out to. If you suspect they might be a restart or an auto-pilot, you can PM me their details (I need more than just a gymname) and I can run an IP search to see if they have any previous gyms. If you notice anything weird that might be a security concern - notify staff ASAP. Also, keep in mind their location. They may speak/read a different language.
What to say-
The first impression is always the most important. When talking through a computer screen you have to be careful. Don't come off as overly authoritarian or speak down to them. Instead of saying, "Hey dude, you suck - you need help!" approach them in a more helpful and friendly manner. Let them know that you were once new as well and that you found ____ really helpful so you suggest that they check out some of the game's resources. Don't poke fun at their results or wave your H2H records over their head. Instead - point out what you think they might be struggling with and may find helpful. Tell them what helped you, or how you are currently being helped. Again, the goal is to get them to this site. I don't mind you helping them independently, but trust me though - the best thing for them is to get active on the forums and used to this help site and get comfortable with the veteran managers.
Where to say it-
You can reach out in multiple places. Lot's of new gyms like press releases and you can try reaching out there. Some may check the forums, but unless they post in a thread I wouldn't suggest creating a thread just to try to get their attention. Ideally, their email will be located on the bottom of their gympage. If you can see their email on their gympage, that means they have it set to "public" and don't mind getting emails regarding the game. That's your best avenue to reach them and the one I suggest the most. If you can't see their email, post their information in the gym list thread and a mod can access their email.
What I need -
If you want to run their information by me first, you can access me here or via email. I prefer you try to give me some specifics. Links are great, or you can copy/paste their gym URL. Another thing you need to know about is gym ID #'s. The gym ID# is located within the URL, or from internet explorer you can also see it down at the bottom of the page when you hover your mouse clicker over the link. For instance, my gym ID# is 11196. I can locate any gym from their gym ID and can then check their IP or see their email (even if it isn't public). Try to use one of those three methods when passing on gym details for me.
What they need-
The biggest thing they need to know is that they aren't alone and that help is readily available. Mention the on site WeBL Forums, the on-site help pages, the archives, the stickied resources in the on-site help forum, but always and foremost mention this site! This site has something the others don't - a sense of community and a chance for one-on-one discussion. That's what sets it apart from the other places. Let them know what we do and how we do it and tell them where to find us.
Site Link-
"<a href="http://weblhelp.freeforums.net/">WeBL Help Forums</a>"
If you reach out via the on-site webl forum's, add this link to make it easier for them to find us. Just remove the "'s from around it and paste it in your post. The top one will send them to these help forums.
That's it for now. Let's get started and get this site busy. I'll post some more stuff for you guys in the next few days.
Thanks,
